The Ootsuji Detective Agency is currently experiencing a slow business. Despite this, Sotaro and his young sidekick Saki are always ready to take on any job that comes their way, even if it seems too risky. It's festival season in the city, but there have been some mysterious disappearances happening away from the public eye. A newspaper reporter hires Sotaro to investigate these cases and suggests that answers may be found in the Dark, a notorious maze located beneath the city's surface. Sotaro assigns the task to Saki, but soon regrets his decision when she also disappears. Now, Sotaro must venture into the Dark himself and confront its dangerous inhabitants, including the Laughing Masks gang and the rogue police force operating the Demon 463 armored train.
