Kazuya Kujou is a foreign student at Saint Marguerite Academy in Sauville, a wealthy boarding school in Southern Europe. Despite being from Japan, his dark hair and eyes make him stand out among his peers, earning him the nickname "Black Reaper" due to an urban legend about a traveler who brings death in spring. On any typical day, Kujou visits the library at Saint Marguerite Academy in search of ghost stories. However, his curiosity is piqued when he notices a strand of golden hair on the stairs leading him to a large garden where he meets Victorique de Blois, an imaginative and gifted girl with the ability to predict their futures together. As more mysteries arise, including the appearance of a ghost ship and an alchemist with powers of transmutation, Kujou and Victorique are forced to rely on each other due to their unique skills and fate.

The 11th episode of Gosick was originally scheduled for broadcast on March 19, but had to be postponed to April 2 due to emergency broadcast related to the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami. The anime again met some trouble when Bandai Entertainment stopped releasing new DVDs, cancelling the series’ scheduled US DVD/Blu-ray release.
