The protagonist of the story is Kazuya, who has spent most of his life feeling overshadowed by his successful siblings. He worked hard to compete but was never recognized for his efforts due to adults' biases against youngest children. Feeling rejected and hurt, he left the military academy in Japan and went abroad to St. Marguerite to study. Unfortunately, Kazuya's appearance combined with students' beliefs about "the traveler who comes in the spring brings death with him" resulted in him being called the "Reaper" and having no friends. However, fate intervened when he became a messenger and companion to Victorique, an eccentric pupil at St. Marguerite. Initially, Kazuya didn't like Victorique due to her arrogant attitude, but over time, he grew to care for her and protect her. Victorique describes him as a good and sincere person with a pure soul that admits pride. Despite the challenges he faced in Japan, Kazuya remains proud of being a soldier's son.
