A while back, after a devastating global war, humanity found refuge in six idyllic cities. However, beneath their tranquil facade, there were hidden dangers. Shion, a resident of city-state number six, experienced a shift in perspective when he encountered a mysterious boy named Nezumi during a chance encounter. Nezumi was just one of many who lived in the barren lands beyond the walls of the utopia. Despite knowing that Nezumi was an outlaw, Shion chose to shelter and protect him for the night. This decision had dire consequences: Shion and his mother lost their elite status and were relocated elsewhere. As time passed, the darker side of city-state six began to reveal itself. Now, many years later, Shion and Nezumi are reunited, ready to embark on an adventure that will uncover the shocking truths about No. 6.

No. 6 condenses but largely remains faithful to the the original nine-part light novel series. Changes were made to tone down the amount of violence in the series, in addition to creating an alternate ending.
