Gundam Plastic Models, or Gunpla, gained immense popularity with the release of Mobile Suit Gundam anime series. Although their fame waned before rising again with a new objective - using Plavsky particles to hold virtual reality-style battles among fans. The best competitors showcase their skills at the annual Gunpla World Tournament. Sei Iori, whose father was once a finalist in this competition, aspires to conquer it himself. Despite being an expert builder of Gunpla, he lacks the necessary combat skills during actual battles. Enter Reiji, a young boy who is oblivious to society but possesses incredible ability in battling Gunpla. The two boys join forces to dominate the Gunpla World Tournament and take control of the Gunpla realm.
Sunrise first announced the series under the title of "1/144 Gundam Mobile," signifying the shows Gunpla plastic model direction. High Grade kits would also be released based exclusively on the Mobile Suits appearing in the series.
