In a sudden turn of events one summer morning, Takeshi Nanase discovers that the world he lives in is only half the story. While on his way to kendo practice, he stumbles upon an unconscious girl in unfamiliar attire. Being the decent person he is, Takeshi saves her and, in return, she awakens and accidentally turns him into a magic-user. As Takeshi learns more about this new world of magic users, he realizes that there are those with grander aspirations than simply coexisting peacefully with non-magicians. Mui Aiba is a magician enrolled in the Subaru Magic Academy, where students can hone their abilities to control and channel their powers while living harmoniously with humans. Following his encounter with Mui, Takeshi, along with his friends Kurumi Isoshima and Kazumi Ida, decide to join the academy as well. Each of them has a unique motivation for continuing on this journey - whether it's escaping the past or reaching for the future. Their powers differ, requiring them to master their abilities in order to combat the Ghost Trailers, a group of magicians who believe in using violence to assert their dominance over humans. As Takeshi and his companions train to enhance their skills, they must confront the leader of the Ghost Trailers and prevent the onset of the Second Great Magic War. Throughout this adventure, Takeshi learns about the intricacies of magic and its potential consequences when wielded improperly. He also discovers the importance of friendship and teamwork in overcoming adversity.
