In contrast to the previous Appleseed movie series, this story takes place in different events and does not follow the same canon as the previous films. The director of both movies has created an alternate beginning for Deunan Knute and Briareos. This new story depicts their early days in the 22nd century, where they embark on a journey through dystopic ruins of New York City to find Olympus. They are hired by Two Horns, who is the warlord of the ruined city, to eliminate bipedal combat machines. While fighting, they encounter Iris and Olson, both on their mission. Deunan and Briareos decide to join them in their quest. Iris's task is to stop Talos from capturing a secret weapon that humans were building. However, Talos uses Iris to activate the giant war machine.
