During the Edo period in Fukagawa ward, Tokyo, a rental shop called Izumoya was established by two siblings, Obeni and Seiji. Due to the area's susceptibility to fires and floods, residents would rent everyday items such as pots, futons, and clothing from shops rather than purchasing them outright. This practice allowed for quick evacuation when necessary. However, Izumoya also carried tsukumogami, objects that had transformed into spirits after a century of existence. Obeni and Seiji occasionally lent these sentient items to customers. Both siblings possessed the ability to see and communicate with the tsukumogami, which attracted other such entities to the store following news of the renowned siblings.
