On Sunday, the official site for the TV anime adaptation of Megumi Hatakenaka's Shabake historical fantasy novel series released its first promotional video. This video provided additional information about the cast, staff, and opening theme song "Inochi no Parade" (Parade of Life) by Kujira . Furthermore, it was announced that the anime will premiere in Fuji TV's Noitamina programming block in October.

Since its initial publication in 2001, the series has produced multiple sequel novels. Additionally, it has inspired two live-action TV shows, manga, radio plays, stage plays, stage musicals, and picture books. In July 2021, an anime adaptation of the novels was released online. Although this anime had a different cast and crew compared to the upcoming adaptation, it is still based on the same source material.
The novels have more than 10 million copies in circulation.
In July 2018, an anime adaptation of Hatakenaka's manga series "We Rent Tsukumogami" was released on television.
