After taking part in the Johto League, Satoshi decides to embark on a new journey with Pikachu in the land of Houen. Although he is initially alone, Haruka, who dislikes Pokemon but wants to explore the world, joins him after her bicycle is destroyed by Pikachu. Later, Satoshi reunites with his old friend Takeshi and Harukas younger brother Masato, and they journey together through Houen, participating in battles against Gym Leaders, entering Contests, and engaging in other activities on their way to the Houen League.

Episode 101 "Yureru Shima no Tatakai! Dojotchi Tai Namazun!!" was originally postponed due to the 2004 Chuuetsu earthquake. The episode never aired in Japan or internationally, and is not included in the episode count.
