After Koyomi Araragi and Hitagi Senjougahara graduated from Naoetsu Private High School, only a few familiar faces remained at the school. One of them was Kanbaru Suruga, who held the Monkeys Paw. When she heard rumors about a mysterious being known as the "Devil," who could magically solve any problem, she immediately thought these rumors were about her and decided to investigate. She discovered that the Devil was actually Rouka Numachi, a former rival from junior high school who had become unable to play basketball due to an injury. As a collector of misfortune, Rouka enjoyed relieving the stress of her clients by providing them with false hope about having their problems solved. Although Kanbaru saw no real harm being done, she reprimanded Rouka for lying and went home relieved that she was not the cause of the rumors. However, when she found that her left hand had reverted back to its human form, Kanbaru may have a reason to worry after all.

Hanamonogatari adapts the third volume of NisiOisiN's Monogatari Series: Second Season.
