Caterpie is an insect-like Pokemon that resembles a green caterpillar with yellow markings on its underside and teardrop-shaped tail. Its body has ring-shaped yellow markings that mimic eyes to scare off predators, while its bright red antenna releases a stench to repel enemies. Despite these features and its camouflage in green foliage, Caterpie is often preyed upon by Flying-type Pokemon. It has four tiny feet with suction cups that allow it to scale most surfaces easily. Caterpie is easy to capture and grows quickly, making it an ideal choice for new trainers. As it develops over time, it sheds its skin multiple times before finally cocooning itself in thick silk. In the anime, Caterpie can also spit this silk to entangle foes. This Pokemon has a voracious appetite and eats up to 100 leaves per day, even bigger ones if available. According to Pokémon Adventures, its favorite food is the Vermilion flower. Caterpie can be found in temperate forests and jungles.
