Takeshi, commonly referred to as "Gian" (ジャイアン, Jaian), is a local bully known for his strength and quick temperament. He considers himself a great singer despite having a terrible singing voice. Gian often subjects the neighborhood children to horrendous singing recitals, which are sometimes combined with his equally bad homemade dinner and atrocious fashion sense. He frequently steals other children's toys and books under the guise of "borrowing" them unless they are damaged. While many fans view Gian as an antagonist in the show, he does help Nobita and his friends when they are in trouble, which often occurs in the movies. Several stories revolve around Nobita and his friends' attempts to avoid Gian's concerts, and several chapters summarize their efforts to avoid visiting Gian's house on his birthday due to his selfish nature. After reflecting on one event about his birthday, Gian realizes that he is not popular among his peers and gets a lecture from Doraemon about his unruly behavior. However, things do not go as planned when his friends at school or on the streets mock him for acting weird and get kicked by Suneo after learning of his attempt to become gentle to his peers. This leads Gian to lose control of his temper and attack his friends again. Although he bullies other children (mostly Nobita), he is afraid of his mother, who runs a local grocery store. Gian founded his own baseball team named after himself, but Nobita is often blamed for the losses against their rival, the "Tyranos." Despite this, Gian and Suneo still force Nobita to play because they do not have enough players. Gian also has a younger sister named Jaiko, whom he adores.
