Nina Fortner was the only survivor of a tragic incident where both her parents and brother were killed during a botched burglary. Initially, she suffered from amnesia due to the psychological trauma. After disappearing with her brother, she was adopted by the Fortner family in Heidelberg who did not know about her past identity as Anna Liebert. As Nina Fortner, she studied law and practiced Aikido. She led a peaceful life until Johan contacted her on her twentieth birthday, prompting her to seek him out for different reasons than Tenma.
