Anotsu is the leader of Itto-ryu and possesses exceptional skill with the sword. He founded this dojo to prioritize lethality over rules and traditions. His upbringing, by an abusive grandfather who was a disgraced swordsman from the Asano family's dojo, has shaped his pragmatic and shrewd personality. Despite being initially perceived as cold and inhuman, Anotsu shows mercy to Rin after she attacks him. He wields two weapons: Kabutsuchi, an axe based on Nepalese design, which serves as his primary weapon, and a rarely used sword of the same name.
