Rear Admiral Wolfgang Mittermeyer serves in Reinhards fleet as one of the most capable field commanders. He is a commoner who met Oskar von Reuenthal while stationed at fortress Iserlohn early in his career and has been close friends with him ever since. Known for being kind and caring, Mittermeyer has helped to stabilize Reuenthals self-destructive tendencies. He is a family man who married his childhood sweetheart Evangeline but has had difficulty having children. His lowly pedigree caused trouble when he ordered the execution of one of his subordinates for assaulting, robbing and murdering a civilian woman. Despite this, Mittermeyer was soon arrested by the nobles who plotted to kill him. To save his friend Reinhard von Musel (later Lohengramm), Mittermeyer offered his loyalty to him in exchange for aid in clearing his name and saving his life. This offer was accepted by Reinhard, who transferred both Mittermeyer and Musel under his command. Nicknamed "the gale wolf," Mittermeyer is known for his boldness in warfare, lightning responses to changing factors on the battlefield, covering huge distances quickly while keeping his fleet organized from his flagship Beowulf. He is a skilled strategist and tactician, highly respected by Reinhard not only for saving his life but also because he genuinely respects his abilities.
