It is suggested that Konokas grandfather played a role in his decision to live with Asuna and Negi, as he is kind-hearted but strict and the chief of the Kantō Magic Association. The Dean enjoys arranging omiai for Konoka to meet potential suitors, despite her lack of interest. He even offered the position to Negi. One successful arranged marriage was his daughters marriage to the head of the Kansai Magic Association (Eishun Konoe), which led to Konokas birth and improved relations between the two associations. The first anime series hints that he may have known Sayo before her death.
