Badou Nails is a chain smoking, freelance journalist and photographer who has long red hair and wears an eye patch due to being attacked by Richter Berthein seven years ago, resulting in the loss of his right eye. His mood fluctuates depending on the availability of cigarettes and nicotine levels in his bloodstream. He can experience extreme elation or murderous violence. Badou had a brother named Dave who was also a freelance journalist, which may have influenced him to start smoking at an early age and pursue a career as a freelancer himself. In Dogs, he uses Ingram MAC-10 machine pistols.
