Inuyasha is a hybrid character with both human and youkai-dog features, known as a "hanyo" in Japanese. He wields the Tessaiga, a supernatural sword made from his deceased father's fang that can destroy one hundred demons with a single swing. The Tessaiga also has additional powers that are revealed throughout the story. Inuyasha possesses massive regeneration abilities due to his youkai heritage, allowing him to recover from injuries that would be fatal for an average human. On the night of the new moon each month, he transforms into a normal human with black hair and brown eyes while losing his yokai powers. Prior to meeting his current companions, Inuyasha concealed himself during this time. Inuyasha is deeply in love with Kikyo but develops feelings for Kagome as well, causing complications in their relationships. Inuyasha has mastered various abilities for his sword, including the red Tessaiga that can destroy barriers and the backlash wave that sends an opponent's demonic energy right back at them.
