Saikano's main female character is named Chise. She is a shy and clumsy girl with low self-esteem who performs poorly in all subjects except for World History. During her elementary years, she frequently spent time in hospitals due to illnesses, resulting in limited social interactions beyond Akemi, her only friend. With Akemi's help, Chise begins dating Shuji despite his aloof demeanor. Although inexperienced and seeking guidance on relationships, Chise turns to shoujo manga for advice. As a result of being turned into an ultimate weapon against her will, the series centers around her struggle with accepting her new body while also questioning her humanity. Chise's condition worsens as she becomes convinced that she is nothing more than a weapon designed solely for destruction. She believes that weapons were created to kill and annihilate, leading her to believe there is no human element left within her. However, Shuji helps Chise overcome this belief by reminding her of the love she has for him and how it allows her to protect something precious rather than destroy it. This realization enables Chise to understand her true identity and ultimately break free from the weapon that had taken over her body.
