Kenji Fujima is the player/coach of Shoyo High and only enters the court when it's necessary, such as during tough moments. His teammates respect him so much that they try not to make him join them on the court unless absolutely necessary. Even the mere hint of his getting off the bench inspires them to play harder. Fujima's personality changes depending on whether he is playing or coaching; while calm and friendly as a coach, he becomes confident, high-spirited, and even ruthless when on the court. As Maki says in volume #10, "As a player, he's not very rational." Fujima plays as a typical point guard, leading his team, passing the ball, shooting, and scoring when necessary. He is one of the top point guards in Kanagawa prefecture and a force to be reckoned with on the court. During the first round of the National Championships, Toyotama High School's captain, Tsuyoshi Minami (known as "Ace Killer"), injured Fujima during a match, resulting in his removal from the game due to injury. Subsequently, Shoyo lost the match to Toyotama.
