Nana is the granddaughter of Theo, a puppeteer, and daughter of Leon, who later became a doctor. As an infant, she fell ill but recovered. Her illness strengthened Leon's determination to become a doctor, despite opposition from his grandfather, Theo. When Leon left home, Nana was still a baby. She believed her father lived in heaven until she personally recognized him as Dr. Leon when they were reunited in Milan with Grampa Theo.
