Despite being kind-hearted and courageous, he becomes the target of Luini, also known as "The God of Death," a notorious figure for buying children and selling them as chimney sweeps in Milan. In an attempt to acquire Romeo, Luini burns down his family's cornfield and injures his father. To help his family financially, Romeo sells himself to Luini. On his journey to Milan, he meets Alfredo Martini and they quickly become friends. However, as a chimney sweep in Milan, Romeo faces numerous hardships and mistreatment from both his master's family and the Wolf Pack gang. After reuniting with Alfredo, the two form "The Black Brothers," a fraternity of chimney sweeps who vow to fight against the Wolf Pack and support each other during tough times.
