The story begins with Shauna confronting Ash Ketchum following his defeat to Brawly, her mentor. In their encounter, she engaged in combat using Meditite while Ash fought alongside Pikachu. Despite losing, Shauna confessed that she was both the apprentice and girlfriend of Brawly, though this information turned out to be false when May questioned her about it in front of him. Although Shauna felt remorse for lying, Brawly forgave her. Later on, Shauna served as a judge during Ash's rematch against Brawly in Just One of the Geysers.
