Jun Uozomi is a captain on the basketball team who views Takenori Akagi as a rival but has never managed to defeat him personally. Despite this, their rivalry isn't hostile; instead, there is mutual respect that borders on friendship. In the match against Sannoh, when Akagi was discouraged and outplayed, Uozumi helped restore his spirits. After Shohoku defeated Ryonan in the Kanagawa prefectural trials, eliminating him from national competition, Uozomi left the team to train as a chef at his family's ramen restaurant. Sendoh succeeded him as captain. Sakuragi nicknamed Uozumi "Boss Monkey" due to his impressive size and power, which are unmatched in high school basketball. Although he started out as a weak player and was bullied by upperclassmen, Ryonans coach Taoka Moichi encouraged him to continue playing, leading to his development into a formidable center. Uozumi is considered one of the top centers in the Kanagawa prefecture but has struggled with bad temper and lack of control during games, which have had serious consequences for his team on multiple occasions. During the second match against Shohoku, Hanamichi tricked him into committing four fouls almost getting him ejected.
