Jerome is the foster father of a boy named Remi who calls him "Father Barberin." He found Remi abandoned in Paris during a cold winter and searched for the child's true family but failed to find it. As a result, he brought Remi back home with him to Chavanon Village. Later, Jerome went back to work in Paris and ten years later returned to his village due to an injury sustained in the city. When he discovered that Remi was still living at his house, Jerome became angry and sold the boy to a cruel slave trader named Pollinel. However, after being sold, Remi was quickly rescued by Vitalis and his animals.
