The story revolves around a man named Kanzaki who grew jealous of his friend Shin due to his relationship with Ryoko and tricked him into serving with the Asranian military, intending that he be killed in action. CEO Tsugumo picked him as his successor at Yamaoto Air Lines and arranged for him to marry Ryoko. However, Kanzaki's plans were ruined when shareholders forced Tsugumo to resign after an underhanded deal with a shady jumbo jet manufacturer was exposed. The planes turned out to be defective, causing an accidental crash that killed all aboard, opening Kanzaki up for investigation. In the end, his wedding plans were ruined and he was arrested for embezzlement, tax evasion, and involvement in the plane crash. While the OVA ends with him simply being arrested as his final fate, the 2004 TV series leaves his ultimate fate unknown but implies that since Ryoko ran away, their marriage did not take place. In the manga, Kanzaki returns with a number of schemes until he dies in an air duel with Shin.
