Maebara Aiko is a character from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series and the mother of Maebara Keiichis husband. Although she appears infrequently in the anime, her presence can be seen throughout the manga adaptations. In the anime, it's common to see her face partially obscured. It is revealed in Tatarigoroshi-hen that Aiko enjoys reading detective novels and has a particular fondness for Agatha Christies works such as And Then There Were None and Murder on the Orient Express. She also wrote a crime novel once and contributed to a crime novel contest. Her expertise in solving crimes is demonstrated when she helps Keiichi murder Houjou Teppei by revealing the perfect crime technique, which was not allowed to begin with.
