In shin makoku, adelbert is the first significant individual that yuri encounters. he was previously engaged to julias and eventually departed from shin makoku because he felt that the mazoku way of life was incorrect. adelbert believes that the mazoku are merely playthings for the original king. although initially viewed as an adversary, his perspective shifts as the series progresses, and he starts safeguarding yuri. despite this, he still expects yuri to demonstrate his worth as the new ruler.
