Takamichi T. Takahata is the art teacher at Mahora that Negi replaces. He used to be a part of Ala Rubra and actively fought during the war as a child. Despite being highly respected in the magic community, he dropped out of magic school because he couldn't perform incantations. Instead, he uses "kankahō," which combines eastern Ki, western magic, and iaidō techniques. Asuna is infatuated with him, but he keeps his true feelings hidden from her. He reveals that he doesn't deserve to be loved due to an unknown reason. His appearance, fighting style, and habits are modeled after Gateau von Vandenberg, who was his master in Ala Rubra.
