The story is described as follows:
In the anime series "Karin," we see 11-year-old Karin being left at her grandfather's temple by her father who is trying to escape loan sharks. She is not thrilled about this situation, nor is she excited when she meets Anzu, her grandfather's talking cat who is a bakeneko or ghost cat. Anzu works part-time as a chiropractor, rides a moped, enjoys pachinko parlors, and stands at six feet tall.
Initially hesitant to care for Karin, Anzu eventually joins her on her quest to reunite with her deceased mother on the anniversary of her death. Together, this unlikely duo embarks on an incredible journey filled with magic and wonder, even venturing into the underworld itself! Directed by Yōko Kuno, this French-Japanese co-production is a visually stunning masterpiece that brings the world of yokai (ghosts) to life in a charming and vibrant way.
In addition to serving as models for animating the characters, both Moriyama and Gotō provided their voices for the filming of their movements, which were later incorporated into the final product.
