Sasaki has served as President/CEO since 2012
On Monday, Viz Media declared that Brad Woods would be their new President and CEO. Currently serving as CEO, Ken Sasaki will transition into the role of Chairman & Executive Advisor.
In 2012, Viz appointed Sasaki as their President and CEO. Prior to that, he had been with the company since February 2008 as Vice President of Strategy and Business Development. During his tenure at Viz, he played a crucial role in their digital content distribution efforts. Additionally, he managed the financial and operational aspects of their businesses. As Chairman, he will continue to guide the company as it embarks on its next phase of global expansion.
In 2015, Woods was appointed as CMO at Viz Media. Since then, he has overseen marketing, licensing, public relations, and business development for the company. Prior to joining Viz Media, Woods worked at DreamWorks Animation as Senior Vice President, where he played a key role in promoting films such as Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, and How To Train Your Dragon. He also held senior positions at Mattel and Warner Bros.
In May 2023, Viz Media released their digital manga app called Viz Manga. This platform provides English translations of ongoing Shogakukan manga for the first time, along with classic titles. With over 10,000 chapters available from both Shogakukan and Shueisha, users can enjoy a vast library of manga content. However, it is important to note that Viz Manga is only accessible within the United States and Canada. Subscriptions cost US$1.99 per month. Additionally, Viz still offers their separate Shonen Jump service for those interested in other types of content.
