Film opened in Japan on December 20
On Thursday, Encore Films declared that they would release : Invincible Master of the Dokutake Ninja ( Gekijо̄-ban Nintama Rantaro Dokutake Ninja-tai Saikyо̄ no Gunshi ), which is the first anime film from the Nintama Rantaro franchise in over a decade, in Malaysia on May 22 and in Thailand on May 29.
In Japan, the movie premiered on December 20th. During its initial weekend, it drew 198,000 tickets, including those from advanced showings, generating 295 million yen or approximately US$1.87 million in revenue from Thursday through Sunday.
The film adaptation of "Rantaro" was created from Kazuhisa Sakaguchi's 2013 novel of the same name. It follows the story of Rantaro's teacher Hansuke Doi losing his battle against Sonnamon and Zatto Konnamon becoming a teacher at Ninjutsu Academy. Happōsai Hieta, who was previously voiced by Shōzō Iizuka in the anime series, will now be voiced by Yasuhiro Mamiya in this film. Furthermore, Ryūsei Ōnishi and Jōichirō Fujiwara from Naniwa Danshi will also lend their voices as guest actors in this film adaptation.
Doraemon movie director Masaya Fujimori is back at Ajia-do animation studio for the new movie. Sakaguchi, the original novel writer, wrote the screenplay for this new project.
