Company has voted to unionize with 88% vote for in favor of unionization
On Monday, it was announced by ICv2 that workers at Abrams Books and its specialized division for comics and manga, Abrams ComicArts, had voted in favor of unionizing with UAW Local 2110. This union received an impressive 88% approval from the employees.
The voting took place from April 30 to May 21 and follows multiple rounds of layoffs and health benefit cuts at the company. The UAW Local 2110 represents over 3,000 workers in publishing as well as universities, museums, and law firms.
On April 23rd, Kana was introduced as a new comic book brand in the United States market by Abrams ComicArts. This brand will focus on publishing both Japanese manga and French comics. Initially, Kana will have three licensed titles, all of which are French editions of Japanese manga by Éditions Ki-oon. These titles include Shiro Kuroi 's Leviathan (published in Shonen Jump+ ), Yumeji 's Eden of Witches (published in Kadokawa 's Harta ), and Tetsuya Tsutsui 's Manhole (published in Square Enix 's Young Gangan ). Kana aims to publish around 40-60 paperback titles annually, with Hachette serving as its distributor.
Abrams Books founded ( link ) In April 2023, Abrams Books made the Abrams ComicArts imprint a full division of their company. This imprint specializes in publishing graphic novels and books related to comic book history. Since its establishment in 2009, it has been dedicated to this niche market.
