In 2023,
Square Enix launched their exclusive game for PlayStation 5 in June. It was available only on this platform until the end of the year.
The game received a PC release via Steam and the Epic Games Store on September 17.
Square Enix describes the game:
An epic dark fantasy world where the fate of the land is decided by the mighty Eikons and the Dominants who wield them. This is the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title “First Shield of Rosaria” and sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the dominant of the Phoenix. Before long, Clive will be caught up in a great tragedy and swear revenge on the Dark Eikon Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake.
The development of the game was led by
Square Enix's Creative Business Unit III division. Naoki Yoshida, known for producing Final Fantasy XIV, was in charge of producing this game. Hiroshi Takai, who directed Final Fantasy XIV, oversaw the direction of this game.
Kenshi Yonezu composed the theme song "Tsuki Wo Miteita - Moongazing" for this game.
In December 2023, "The Echoes of the Fallen" was released as a DLC, while "The Rising Tide" was introduced on April 18, 2024 as another DLC.
The well-known Takarazuka Revue created a stage musical adaptation of the popular game. This musical was performed at the Takarazuka Grand Theater from May 17th to June 23rd in 2024, and at Tokyo Takarazuka Theatre from July 13th to August 25th in the same year.
