On Thursday at Anime Expo, Bandai Namco Filmworks unveiled information about Science SARU 's new television anime series adaptation of The Ghost in the Shell ( Kōkaku Kidōtai THE GHOST IN THE SHELL ). They shared the second teaser video and logo designed by Hajime Sorayama ("Sexy Robot" series, Aerosmoth's Just Push Play album cover).

On Thursday during a panel discussion, it was announced that the anime adaptation of the manga would remain faithful to its source material. Additionally, it was shared that the script for the series is almost finished and work is currently being done on creating storyboards.

The staff showed the previously revealed visual, this time with the new logo design.

Furthermore, it was revealed that the exhibition titled "Shirow Masamune - 'Ghost in the Shell' and 'Path of Creation'" will be held in Los Angeles.

The anime is slated to debut in 2026.

At Science SARU, Mokochan is making his directorial debut with an anime series. Toh Enjoe, who wrote The Empire of Corpses novel and scripted Space Dandy and Godzilla Singular Point, is handling both scriptwriting and overseeing the series scripts. Shūhei Handa, known for his work on Little Witch Academia TV series, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, and Spriggan ONA, is designing characters and serving as chief animation director.

Original manga creator Masamune Shirow provided a comment on the new anime:

Anime adaptation-wise, this new THE GHOST IN THE SHELL marks the fourth version
following those by [ Mamoru Oshii ], [ Kenji Kamiyama ], and [ Kazuchika Kise ]. Alternatively, if we separate GHOST IN THE
SHELL and Innocence , categorize the S.A.C. series into Seasons 1, 2, and Solid State
Society, divide ARISE into its own series along with The New Movie, and split SAC_2045
into Seasons 1 and 2, this would be the tenth adaptation overall.

Considering the shift in production staff, one could even consider this the first installment of
a second generation. The original manga is quite old, so I ask for your understanding on that
point (sorry!). That said, I sincerely hope this will once again be an enjoyable visual
experience in some form.

The "The World of Masamune Shirow -The Ghost in the Shell and the Path of Creation-" exhibition ( link ) opened at the Setagaya Literary Museum in Tokyo on April 12, and will run until August 17.

Bandai Namco Filmworks , Kodansha , Science SARU , and Production I.G are on the production committee for the series.

In May 2024, Bandai Namco Filmworks declared the launch of a new series. Meanwhile, Atsuko Tanaka, who provided the voice for Motoko Kusanagi in the franchise, passed away in August 2024 at the age of 61.

What is the name of the most recent anime adaptation of Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell manga series? It's called Kōkaku Kidōtai SAC_2045 Saigo no Ningen ( Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 The Last Human ), which is a compilation film for the second season of the Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 anime series. This film was released in November 2023.
