On Tuesday, it was announced by The Deadline entertainment news outlet that Legendary Entertainment is working on a live-action film adaptation of CAPCOM's Street Fighter video game series. Vidyut Jammwal has been cast as Dhalsim in this film, which marks his first appearance in Hollywood. Jammwal is well-known in India for his roles in films such as Commando and Khuda Haafiz.
It was previously announced that David Dastmalchian would portray the villainous character of M. Bison in the upcoming Street Fighter film, alongside comedian Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson as Balrog, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Andrew Koji as Ryu, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Noah Centineo as Ken, WWE professional wrestler Roman Reigns as Akuma, musician Orville Peck as Vega, and other actors in various roles in the film.
The film was planned to open on March 20, 2026, but Sony removed ( link ) the film from its release calendar on March 24, and has not revealed a new opening date for the film. Kitao Sakurai ( The Eric Andre Show , Bad Trip ) would be directing the film's shoot in Australia starting in August.
In April 2023, CAPCOM sold its film and TV rights for Street Fighter to Legendary Entertainment. They will collaborate on future projects together.
Initially, it was planned for Danny and Michael Philippou to direct the movie. However, they decided to prioritize working on their Bring Her Back project instead.
In 1994, a live-action movie was made based on the video game series. It featured Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raul Julia, Ming-Na Wen, Damian Chapa, Kylie Minogue, and Wes Studi. In 2009, another spinoff titled Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li was produced by HYDE Park Entertainment, featuring Kristin Kreuk.

In June 2023, Street Fighter 6 will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam as a fighting game.
