At San Diego Comic-Con International on Thursday, Bandai Namco Filmworks revealed a new teaser image for Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe ( Kidō Senshi Gundam: Senkō no Hathaway - Circe no Majo ), which is the second film of the Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway ( Kidō Senshi Gundam : Senkō no Hathaway ) anime series. Pablo Uchida, who is in charge of character design for the films, created this image. Although Bandai Namco Filmworks has not yet released this image online, ANN will update this article with it as soon as it becomes available.
Bandai Namco Filmworks has announced that the film will be released in Japan this year, followed by North American screenings. Although the teaser trailer stated in Japanese that it would open "this winter," it was later clarified in English as "next winter." However, during the panel, it was revealed that in North America, the film will open "this winter" as well.
Finally, the panel showed a new message from Kenshō Ono , who voices Hathaway Noa in the films.
The majority of the main cast and crew members from the previous movie will be back for this sequel. Additionally, two new people have joined the team - Yuichi Kuboki as a color key artist and Yoshinori Sayama as a display designer. Lastly, Yoshihisa Ōyama is the new compositing director of photography, with Manabu Kamitōno directing the visual effects.
During the release event for the 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc of the first film in December 2021, Director Shukou Murase hinted that the second movie might not come out before 2024, which is when the next Summer Olympics will take place. Producer Naohiro Ogata shared that the next installment in the series will take place in Australia, but due to COVID-19, it has been challenging to cover the area. As a result, the director has been using a flight simulator to explore the skies of Australia virtually.
The upcoming movie series is called Gundam : Senkō no Hathaway: San of Bright . Producer Ogata explained that "San" (サン) in Japanese katakana can mean "sun" or "son." This refers to the main character Hathaway Noa being the son of Bright Noa from the original Gundam series. Ogata also mentioned that while the movie will follow some aspects of Yoshiyuki Tomino 's novel series, it may have some differences as well.
On June 11, 2021, the first movie was released in Japan after being postponed three times initially. Originally scheduled for July 2020, it was delayed due to COVID-19. It was then pushed back from May 7 to May 21 due to COVID-19-related issues. However, it was delayed again due to the extended state of emergency declared in Japan.
In its initial three days at the box office, the first Hathaway film generated 259,074 ticket sales worth 523,943,800 yen (approximately US$4.77 million). This made it rank third in ticket sales during its opening weekend. Eventually, it surpassed the 1 billion yen mark, becoming the first Gundam film since 1988's Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack to achieve this feat. As of October 10, 2021, it had accumulated a total of 2,209,628,200 yen (about US$19.57 million) in the Japanese box office. Since then, the Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- anime film has surpassed its total earnings.
Netflix U.S. began exclusively streaming the first film on July 1, 2021.
