Ryū Fujisaki's Legend of the Galactic Heroes Manga Approaches 'Final Battle'
Manga adaptation of Yoshiki Tanaka's epic sci-fi novel series launched in 2015
The 33rd compiled book volume of Ryū Fujisaki 's Legend of the Galactic Heroes manga revealed on August 19 that the manga is approaching its "final battle."
In October 2015, Hoshin Engi was launched as a manga in Weekly Young Jump by Shueisha . Then, in February 2020, it was transferred from Weekly Young Jump to Ultra Jump magazine by Shueisha .
The anime is derived from Yoshiki Tanaka's space opera book collection. It portrays the grand struggle between the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance, while also focusing on the individual journeys of Imperial Admiral Reinhard von Lohengramm and Alliance member Yang Wen-Li. Viz Media has made the original English translation of the novel series available through their Haikasoru imprint.
Viz Media released both Hoshin Engi by Fujisaki and WaqWaq manga in English versions. These manga have inspired two anime series based on them - Hoshin Engi and Shiki.
Director Noboru Ishiguro of Artland Studio took over a decade to turn the novels into a successful anime franchise that included over one hundred installments from 1988 to 2000. Sentai Filmworks has acquired the rights for home video distribution of this video anime series.
The anime adaptation of the novels by Production I.G was released as a 12-episode series in April 2018 as the first season of Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These . In fall 2019, three films were released as the second "season" of the show, titled Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These Seiran .
The third season of "Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These" was shown in theaters in March, April, and May 2022. It was also broadcast on television for 12 episodes, which were numbered as episodes 25-36 in the overall series.
The anime series "The Fourth Season of Legend of the Galactic Heroes: The New Theseus" was divided into three parts with brief three-week showings in September, October, and November 2022.
Production on a sequel series was green-lit in 2023.
