Following the crash landing of a mysterious spaceship on Earth, humanity comes to realize that they are not alone in the universe. Fearing potential threats from outer space, nations set aside their differences under the umbrella of the United Nations. The newly formed UN forces decide to repurpose the alien spacecraft and name it SDF-1 Macross. However, on its first flight, the Macross shoots down a fleet of spaceships belonging to an extraterrestrial race known as the Zentradi, sparking an intergalactic war. In an attempt to escape, the Macross attempts to launch itself into orbit around the moon, but instead gets teleported to the far reaches of space. Along with Hikaru Ichijou, a fearless acrobatic pilot, and Minmay Lynn, an aspiring singer, as well as the crew of the Macross, they embark on an epic journey fraught with sorrow and drama, confronting the horrors of war along the way.
