On July 3rd, TMS Entertainment started streaming a collection of selected episodes from the anime series "Detective Conan" (also known as "Case Closed") on both Crunchyroll and Netflix. These episodes are available in Japanese with a new English dub, which is making its first appearance on Crunchyroll. The initial set of episodes is titled "Conan vs. The Black Organization" and includes episodes featuring the main antagonists, some of which have never been previously released in the U.S. On August 21st, Crunchyroll and Netflix added more episodes to the collection.
At Anime Expo on July 5th, the US premiere of Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine was shown on the TMS screen. This is the 26th film in the franchise.
In 1994, the manga series "Case Closed" was introduced by its creator, Gōshō Aoyama, in "Weekly Shounen Sunday" magazine published by Shogakukan. This led to a television anime series that started airing in January 1996. Additionally, there is also an anime film series associated with this manga series. Viz Media publishes the original manga under the name "Case Closed" while using English names from the original Funimation dub when applicable. Otherwise, they use the original Japanese names.
The manga series centers on Conan Edogawa, the alias of detective Shinichi Kudo, whose body shrunk after being poisoned at the beginning of the story. Together with detective Kogoro Mori and his daughter Ran, Conan helps the police solve difficult mysteries.
The movie "Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback" from the franchise was released on April 18th in Japan and it was number one at the box office.
