Film opens in U.S., Canada on Friday
On Friday, it was reported by Sony Pictures and Crunchyroll that the first movie in the trilogy of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, titled "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle - Akaza Sairai," made US$11.4 million during early preview screenings held on Thursday at 2,800 locations across the US.
On Friday in the United States and Canada, theaters started showing the first movie from Crunchyroll, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Aniplex. This film is available in both Japanese with English subtitles and English dubbed versions.
Keizo Tatum will be played by Channing Tatum in the English version of the movie, while Koyuki will be portrayed by Rebecca Wang.
In Japan, the movie premiered on July 18th and it's currently being shown on 443 screens (a record for this franchise). Additionally, Aniplex plans for this new release to be screened in more than 150 countries worldwide, which is greater than the previous global tour that included over 145 countries and regions.
The movie Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie has sold 22,007,405 tickets and earned a total of 31,425,916,900 yen (approximately US$213 million). This makes it the fastest-selling movie in Japan, reaching the 30 million yen mark (about US$203 million) in just 46 days. Previously, Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba - Mugen Train held this record, taking 59 days to reach the milestone.
In Japan, the movie has overtaken Titanic as the third highest-grossing film ever. It is predicted that it will soon surpass Spirited Away in earnings as well.
Ufotable is both directing the anime and writing its screenplay. Haruo Sotozaki is in charge of directing it, while LiSA and Aimer are performing the songs "Taiyō ga Noboranai Sekai" and "Zankoku no Yoru ni Kagayake," respectively.
