What anime series inspired Vampire Hunter D? In 12,090 A.D., humanity is struggling to recover from three centuries of rule by a race of vampires called the Nobility. The war against these vampires has left many cities in ruins and small villages scattered across the countryside still fighting off nightly attacks by fallen vampires and their genetically engineered demons and werewolves.

Vampire Hunter D has been published in English by Dark Horse Books (collaborating with Digital Manga Publishing) since May 24, 2005. The first novel in the series inspired the original Vampire Hunter D movie. The third novel was the inspiration for the Vampire Hunter D: Blood Lust movie.
