In a sudden turn of events, earth is enveloped by an unknown light, leaving humanity frozen in fear. centuries later, the world flourishes with vegetation, and cities have given way to forests. one of the first individuals to break free from their stone prison is taiju ooki, who discovers that his friend senkuu has been preparing for his resurrection. while taiju yearns to save the woman he loves, senkuu remains focused on determining the source of this mysterious occurrence and restoring the world to its former glory. however, when they release tsukasa shishiou in an attempt to gain an advantage against the unknown threats that surround them in their new environment, they realize that their ally has different intentions. for tsukasa, this catastrophe presents an opportunity to start over, free from the devastation wrought by technology. he is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals. as a result of these conflicting ideals, senkuu and his unwavering commitment to science will confront tsukasa and his primal instincts in what promises to be an epic battle that spans generations.

As a part of the JUMP START initiative, the first three chapters of Dr. Stone were published in English in VIZ Medias digital Weekly Shonen Jump on the same day as the Japanese release. After, the series was added to VIZ Medias Weekly Shonen Jump lineup. The same publisher has licensed the series for print release.
