Saeko Chiba began dancing at a young age with dreams of joining Takarazuka Revue. Despite failing the entrance exam in her third year of middle school, she joined the Minami Aoyama Shōjo Kageki Dan (Nanshō), a group for teenage girls on stage. Over three years, Saeko had several lead roles and was later cast as Kotori Haruno in Diamond Daydreams. This experience led her to pursue a full-time career in voice acting.
Some of her early roles include Tsubaki Sakura in Kare Kano, Kitsune no Akane in Angel Tales, and Elliot Chapman in Sci-fi Harry. Saeko was known for her long, straight black hair and cold demeanor, which made her a popular choice for tsundere and cool-girl roles. In the spring of 2005, she cut her hair short, coinciding with an increase in diversity of her roles.
Saeko has also pursued a singing career alongside Yuki Kajiura, who wrote music for some Nanshō stage shows. Her first single was "Koi no Kiseki," the theme song for Meguri Aishite, and she has since released nine singles and two albums, as well as various character songs and drama CDs. She also performed theme songs for games such as Alundra 2 and Atelier Judie.
Saeko was part of the group tiaraway with fellow Nanshō member Yuuka Nanri. They recorded and performed together as Saeko Chiba & Yuuka Nanri for Memories Off 2nd, releasing three singles and an album before disbanding on March 6, 2005.
