In his mundane existence, Shuuzou Shuu Matsutani leads a peaceful life with friends, love interest, and passion for kendo. After losing to his rival in kendo, he climbs a smokestack to watch the sunset and encounters Lala-Ru, an aloof blue-haired girl wearing a peculiar pendant. Despite her unenthusiastic responses, Shuu tries to befriend her. However, his efforts are futile when a woman with two serpentine machines appears out of nowhere with the intention of capturing Lala-Ru. In spite of his stubbornness, Shuu attempts to save his new acquaintance from her kidnappers and is subsequently transported to an unfamiliar desert world. Despite the harsh conditions, Shuu's sole focus remains on rescuing Lala-Ru. However, he soon discovers that she possesses the ability to manipulate water through her pendant, which has now vanished. As a result, Shuu becomes the prime suspect and must endure torture, starvation, and the horrors of war in order to save the lonely girl he found on a smokestack.
