The Starship John A. Warden is under attack by bugs at Fort Casey. The team on board the fast attack ship Alesia has been tasked with assisting in the evacuation of survivors and retrieving military intelligence safely for Earth. Carl Jenkins, now head of the Ministry of Paranormal Warfare, takes the starship on a secret mission before rendezvousing with the Alesia, but disappears in a nebula. The team is now faced with a rescue mission that may have dire consequences they never anticipated.

The film is the fourth installment of the Starship Troopers film series and serves a direct sequel to the 1997 film, ignoring the events of Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004) and Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (2008). The film was released in Japan on July 21, 2012 and in North America on August 28, 2012 as a direct-to-video title.
