Kazamatsuri is a modern city with a growing green space and rich Japanese culture. It's home to Kotarou Tennouji, a high school student who doesn't share the values of his community. He spends his time pestering Haruhiko, indulging in his feelings for Kotori, and exploring the supernatural world with Akane Senri, the president of the Occult Research Club. With his superhuman ability to change any part of his body, Kotarou is naturally drawn to the supernatural. He revives the Occult Club by recruiting four members: Chihaya, Lucia, Shizuru, and Kotori. As they embark on shared adventures, Kotarou discovers secrets about each member that will ultimately lead him to a fate only he can rewrite.

Rewrite is Keys ninth game, along with other titles such as Kanon, Air, Little Busters!, and Clannad.The game ranked as the best-selling PC game sold in Japan for the time of its release, and charted in the national top 50 twice more afterwards. There have been four manga adaptations based on Rewrite published by ASCII Media Works and Ichijinsha.
