After completing their studies in high school, Kyosuke and Madoka found themselves at a crossroads where they had to determine which colleges they would attend. Since they wanted to be together, they needed to find a university that accepted both of them. Hikaru, who was still a year away from graduation, offered her support to Kyosuke in any way she could. However, Madoka couldn't help but feel jealous and expressed her emotions to Kyosuke. Ultimately, Kyosuke had to make the difficult decision of choosing between the two girls he loved, thus concluding the story of Kimagure Orange Road.

Kimagure Orange☆Road: Ano Hi ni Kaeritai was released on DVD as Kimagure Orange Road: I Want to Return to That Day by AnimEigo on May 11, 2004. The film was remastered by Discotek Media and re-released on Blu-ray alongside Kimagure Orange☆Road OVA on August 27, 2019.
