Sakura's older brother is Shinji Matou, who is also a long-time friend of Shirou. Despite being known as vice-captain of the archery dojo, Shinji has been described as chauvinistic and narcissistic. His lineage traces back to distinguished sorcerers, but due to the thinning Matou bloodline, he is not naturally capable of sorcery. He feels uncomfortable with his sisters frequent visits to Shirous home, and there are indications that Shinji has an open crush on Rin Tohsaka, though she does not reciprocate his feelings.
